An amazing novel is there inside you. Sometimes you need help drawing it out. That's where we come in.

The REAL cause of writer's block.
Few people talk about the most common reason for writer's block:
Something in your story has gone wrong.
Your subconscious knows and refuses to let you travel down a dead end.
But writer's block is actually a good thing.
It's a chance to find your story's problems and fix them. It's like a check engine light for your book.
You just need a way to figure out what's broken.

Writer's block is an opportunity (yes, really).
Our team of authors and editors compiled the questions we use to find the problems in our stories and address them.
Choose a Smash Writer's Block card at random, read the prompt, and start brainstorming. Repeat as needed.
As you dig deeper into your plot, characters, and world, you'll figure out what went wrong in your story and find ways to fix it.
Once you do, your writer's block will be smashed, and your novel will be better than before.

Turn writer’s block into better stories.
Imagine the words flowing as you write a more compelling and memorable story... precisely because you faced and defeated writer's block.
All you have to do is ask yourself the right questions and dig deep into your creative subconscious.
I like that there’s options. So if you’re not feeling one, there’s another you could look for that might strike something up.
About us
We’re a team of authors and editors who spent decades in writer’s circles, critique groups, and author communities. We've seen writers struggle with the same challenges over and over again.
So, we decided to do something about it, because no one should have to give up on their dreams.
We pooled the knowledge gained over decades of writing, publishing, and editing to create streamlined, action-based workbooks based on the same systems we used to write and publish over 50 novels.

Two ways to use your digital cards
Method 1: The printed version
- Download your PDF
- Select Print> Multiple.
- Next to "Pages per Sheet", choose 4 or 6, depending on how large you want the cards.
- Cut out the cards. Some of them say "see reverse", which means they have a related prompt on the card before or after them. Glue these ones back to back so the connected prompts stay together.
- Shuffle the deck, pull a card, and start writing.
Method 2: The paperless version
- Pull up a random number generator and enter numbers 5-204.
- Generate a random number and navigate to that page in the PDF.
- Read the card. If it mentions a reverse side that means it has a related prompt on the card before or after.
- Start writing.

FAQ
How is this different from other writing prompts?
Most writing prompts spark ideas for new stories and characters (for example, a rogue and a monk team up). The Smash Writer’s Block book helps you break through blocks in a current project.
The prompts encourage you to delve deeper into existing characters and plot to uncover the reasons why you’re stuck.
With decades of experience between our team of authors and editors, we’ve found that writer’s block is often the result of something going wrong in your novel. We crafted these prompts to help you approach your characters and stories from new perspectives so you can break through your block to discover the right way forward for your project.
It also includes a few fun, out-there prompts that might not be connected to your story but can lead to new ideas.
Can’t I just find prompts online for free?
Most of the prompts out there help you come up with ideas for brand new characters and stories. If that’s what you need, the internet is your friend.
But if you’re stuck on a current project, prompts about new story ideas only serve to tempt you away from finishing your novel.
Our card deck was developed by professional authors and editors with loads of experience in overcoming writer’s block on current works-in-progress. We created the deck to help you break through the block to write a better, stronger story.
